Council Services

Emergency

Council plays an important role in both emergency management planning, and in the response and recovery phase in the event of an emergency.

Through a cooperative effort between Council and local emergency services, a Municipal Emergency Management Plan has been developed and is updated regularly.  This plan has actions that help plan for, prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies.

A number of sub-plans have been developed as part of the overall plan and include:

Municipal Fire Management Plan - an integrated plan developed by multiple agencies to chart the planned and coordinated implementation of measures designed to minimise the occurrence, and mitigate the effect not only of bushfires, but also structural and hazardous materials fires.

Neighbourhood Safer Places Plan - provides the methodology for Council to follow in identifying, designating, establishing, maintaining and decommissioning NSPs - Places of Last Resort, in the event of bushfires.

Municipal Emergency Animal Welfare Plan - in the event of an emergency, this plan guides emergency animal welfare arrangements.

For more information, please contact the Emergency Management Department on 5593 7100.

VicEmergency Website

The VicEmergency website has been updated to provide the Victorian community with one, centralised location for emergency warnings and information. The site now includes all warnings for fires, hazardous material incidents, storms, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and traffic hazards. It is also fully mobile responsive and has been tested by Vision Australia to meet online accessibility requirements.
