Corangamite Shire has seven councillors, representing five wards.

The elected Councillors hire a Chief Executive Officer, who is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation. Corangamite Shire Council is the largest employer in the Shire and currently employs over 300 staff, either on a full time, part time, temporary or casual basis.
