At the February Council Meeting Corangamite Shire Councillors adopted Council’s first Events and Festivals Strategy 2017-2021 indicating the importance of events and festivals.
Mayor Jo Beard said the Strategy had been developed to support the important work already being done in our communities through events and festivals.
“Events and festivals have become an integral part of our community, adding vibrancy, diversity and opportunity; showcasing our culture, heritage and unique environment,” Cr Beard said.
“In the past Corangamite has hosted a widely diverse calendar of events, ranging from large scale hallmark events, local and community events, sporting events, cultural performances and agricultural shows all of which we are very proud,” she said.
The main aims of the Events and Festivals Strategy are to grow and retain existing events in Corangamite Shire, establish a supportive environment for new event creation and provide expertise and support for others to run successful events.
Manager Economic Development and Tourism, Michael Emerson said the Strategy also planned to generate economic, social and community benefits and quantify economic benefit of events held in the Shire.
“Feedback to assist in the development was received from the community on the draft Events and Festivals Strategy in 2016 and in consultation with event organisers and committee members in the region,” he said.
