The Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management Committee is seeking nominations from community members interested in the future management and development of our volcanic icons.
Two positions have opened on the committee with both being casual vacancies that will run until October 2019.
Corangamite Shire Manager Environment and Emergency, Lyall Bond said over the past few years, the Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Development Committee had put in a lot of work to develop the reserves into the community assets they are today.
“This is a great opportunity to join this dedicated team and help shape the future of the Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf reserves,” Mr Bond said.
One of the primary roles of the committee is to manage the implementation of the Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Landscape Master, Management and Implementation Plan.
Environment Project Officer, James Watson said that the committee was looking for members with a broad range of skills who were willing to actively contribute to the project.
“As well as attending monthly meetings, committee members assist with a range of activities including project planning, funding applications, publicity, community events, educational activities, and hands-on tasks such as plant propagation, weed control and tree planting,” Mr Watson said.
“A review of the current Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management Plan would also be a key project for the committee in 2018,” he said.
Position descriptions and nomination forms are available on Corangamite Shire’s website www.corangamite.vic.gov.au or can be obtained from the Council offices.
Nominations are open until Monday 3 April. For further information on the positions please contact James Watson at Corangamite Shire on 5593 7100.
