Microchipping for Corangamite pets

Local veterinary clinics are offering a special deal from 3 - 7 April for residents to get their cat or dog micro-chipped for only $35 per animal.

Corangamite Shire Mayor, Jo Beard urged all pet owners to get their new animals permanently identified in accordance with State Law prior to registering them with Council.

“Micro-chipping can help ensure your animal can also be easily identified and returned if picked up by a ranger,” Cr Beard said.

“Animals often go missing for a variety of reasons, however owners that have microchipped their animals are more often than not reunited with them as quickly as possible,” she said.

Corangamite Shire has over 4100 pets currently recorded on its system, with a number still to be re-registered. Owners have until Monday 10 April to register their pets.

Cr Beard said it was compulsory for new pets to be registered once they were over three months old and reminded people the microchip number is also required when registering your new pet.

“To register new animals call the Council or come in and speak to our friendly community relations team who will be happy to assist,” she said.
