Lismore Water Tower Public Art Project

Lismore water tower public art launch.jpg

This project was open to all artists within Australia, through an ‘Expression of Interest’ process.

Following the initial Expression of Interest, submissions were assessed by a specially convened Community Reference Group. Three artists were short-listed and offered an opportunity to develop and propose a concept.

Local Artist Jimmi Buscombe was the successful artist and has produced a spectacular silo art style image of brolgas and pastures.

The Lismore community identified some themes that were the basis for public art. The artist may use this list for research, but is not limited by it.

Concepts could reference or consider:

  • History
  • Sheep, Shearing & Woolsheds
  • Something new and unique to Lismore
  • Native animals and birds (Inc. Brolgas)
  • Volcanic Plains
  • Bluestone buildings
  • Native vegetation

Other aspects to consider:

  • That the artwork is a prominent feature of the town
  • 1850s onwards

The outcome is timeless, contemporary, and permanent and provide an appropriate legacy for the community.
