Simpson

Part of the Heytesbury Settlement, Simpson is one of the most productive dairying centres in Australia. Lying 199km west of Melbourne, the town was named after H.L. Simpson, the first chairman of the Soldier Settlement Commission.

The first settlers took up property in 1960 as the Heytesbury Forest was being cleared. 43,000 hectares of land was eventually cleared for pasture, allowing more families to take up occupation and begin dairy farming.

Simpson is a lovely town where the history of the settlement can be observed at the local park. Wander around the natural dam, feed the waterfowl, enjoy a picnic and learn about the settlement via machinery and display material.
