We want to hear your ideas for Cobden facelift

If you live in or around Cobden, Corangamite Shire Council needs to know how you think the main street streetscape could be improved.
Council is proposing to allocate $300,000 in its Draft Budget for priority works to be done on Curdie Street early next year.
South Central Ward Councillor Jo Beard said community consultation for the Cobden Streetscape Improvements Project would happen in four stages. The initial consultation process will be different to other projects due to the coronavirus restrictions.
“The people of Cobden and district are the main ones who use this street so we want to hear their ideas that can enhance their quality of life, access, and ability to go about their daily business,” Cr Beard said.
“First we will collect ideas from the members of the broad Cobden community, then we will work out some notional costings and do a survey to find out which ideas have the most support. Those priorities will form the basis for a draft project plan that will be sent out for community feedback and advice before being finalised and going to Council for discussion and final approval.”
Each stage can easily be completed online, by phone, in writing and by email.
Some ideas that have already been raised include:
- Improve footpath surfaces
- Review
-
- path and kerb design at intersections
- universal design compliance of all pedestrian circulation areas
- location of disabled car-parks
- current seating provisions
- size and design of all three roundabouts
- outstand designs to give priority to pedestrians
- Fix slippery surfaces at outstands and traffic refuge splitters
- Provide areas for parking scooters/gophers
The road surface is a VicRoads responsibility being addressed separately from this project.
“Cobden’s a fantastic town that has had its various challenges in recent years. The idea of this project is to create small changes that will make it even easier to get around and for it to become an even better place to live, shop, work and visit,” Cr Beard said.
