New Manager Works Peter Rogers brings a wealth of skills and love of the region to Corangamite Shire Council.
Mr Rogers leads 47 staff who build and maintain roads and bridges and carry out line marking, sign maintenance, street cleansing, minor works, stores and mechanical workshop operations which keep the plant and fleet operating to support council business.
“What I am doing with Corangamite Shire Council aligns with what I have done in previous Councils,” he said.
“In several other Councils I led rather large, diverse-skilled teams like the one here at Corangamite.
“Local Government is a service industry and there is a great deal of satisfaction in being able to help and support people,” he said.
“Working in the industry you soon get to know the better run organisations and Corangamite sits well within the sector.”
After starting his work life in printing and horticulture, Mr Rogers worked for Footscray City Council in parks and open space then moved into operations and infrastructure at Northern Grampians Shire Council. He got into management at an early age and has worked in different roles at 14 councils in five states.
“I have worked in the private sector, construction, mining, the Australian Defence Force and had my own business. They were great experiences and would recommend all of them,” he said.
“I believe you try to bring your experience, training and knowledge with you to the organisation that you are joining and see it also as an opportunity to learn how someone else in the industry does it.
“I hope to bring something tangible and, when my time comes to move on, leave something that can be continued and has benefited the people within the organisation—but most importantly the rate payers.”
Director Works and Services Brooke Love said Mr Rogers would be an asset to Council.
“We welcome Peter to Corangamite and the role,” Mrs Love said.
“Peter brings with him a wealth of knowledge and it will be great to have someone with his considerable level of experience leading a critical area of Council.
“He has a passion for not only the sector but also the operational aspects of the position.
“We are looking forward to the team operating at full strength again.”
