With so many things we can’t do during the shutdown, #ICANcorona is putting the spotlight on what we CAN do.
Corangamite Youth Crew—the new-look Corangamite Shire Youth Council FReeZA crew—has started the #ICANcorona campaign on Instagram to give young people a place to hang out and socialise without leaving home.
Council representative to Youth Council, Cr Jo Beard praised the Corangamite Youth Crew for their initiative.
“I’m so impressed that our younger people have instigated this,” Cr Beard said. “This is a great idea and full credit to them for doing something fun, positive and proactive rather than letting the coronavirus isolation get them down.
“The aim is for our young people across the Shire to post pictures of themselves focusing on new ways to potentially do new things and activities that they may not have otherwise done. Each week we’ll have a different theme. We’re starting off with #moveit, focussing on how we can be physically active while we’re in this new world.”
Each week will also have an online event in Instagram TV. The first one will be ‘Cooking with Tess’ on Tuesday 14 April. Youth Councillor Tess Lourey has catered for YouthFest, many Youth Council and FReeZA events, twenty-first birthdays and created birthday cakes and much, much more.
“I studied hospitality at school in year 10 and 11, working on my culinary skills. I really enjoy spending time cooking for others.
“I chose to start this segment to share my cooking knowledge and also give people something to do during isolation while we’re in ‘ronaland’.
“With many young people losing their part-time jobs, or being put on leave, they are finding themselves with extra time on their hands. I thought I’d share my passion with others and give them something to learn and focus on during these tough times.”
