Networking morning tea for International Women’s Day

You’re invited to celebrate International Women’s Day over morning tea connect with others from across our community and hear from inspirational women from across our Shire.

Corangamite Shire Council is hosting a free morning tea at Lake Edge Café on Thursday 6 March from 9am.

Brief addresses from a number of inspirational women will provide starting points for more informal conversation. Speakers include:

  • Mayor Cr Kate Makin
  • Lois Dupleix—Lake Edge Café business owner/operator
  • Alison Byrne—Courthouse Camperdown President
  • Natalie Jorgensen—Police Sargent
  • Anne Rosolin—Great Ocean Road Cordials

“This informal gathering brings the community together to celebrate International Women’s Day,” Cr Makin said.

“Come along and enjoy a beautiful morning tea with us, while listening to inspirational women from across our Shire.

“International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

“It also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.”

The theme of International Women's Day 2025 is 'Accelerate Action'.

According to World Economic Forum data, at the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 to reach full equality across health, education, economic opportunity and political empowerment.

Australia ranks 24th in The Global Gender Gap Index 2024 rankings.

“Particularly in rural and regional areas, women might feel isolated or that they don’t have strong connections with people who share their lived experience.

“This event is a testament to our commitment to fostering equality, empowering women, and creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

“Come along and celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women from across Corangamite.”
