New festival to light up Camperdown

A fun new festival will turn the spotlight on Camperdown next month.
The Light Up Camperdown – Light and Lantern Festival will feature street performers, buskers, markets, late night Christmas shopping and more.
The event, from 4-9 pm on Friday 8 December, will culminate with the illumination of the clocktower.
Corangamite Shire Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the event would include lighting, projections and activities.
“The week before, children in our Camperdown schools will make lanterns under the guidance of WildHoney Performing Arts.
“There will also be lantern-making workshops for people of all ages on the night so they can add their own contribution to the spectacle.
“Roving artist group, Illuminates will perform at 5 pm, 7 pm and 8.30 pm with their dream-like costumes and choreography.”
Cr Gstrein called out for young artists who want to play on the four buskers’ stages.
“If you’re between 12 and 25 years or age, this is your chance to play at this new outdoor festival.
“Fill in the form on Council’s website and tell us a bit about yourself. It’s live now and you have until the end of the month to apply.
“You can find the link by following Corangamite Shire Youth Services on Facebook or @corangamite.youth on Instagram.”
Cr Gstrein said the Camperdown Rotary Twilight Market would add colour and variety to the festival atmosphere and many of the local shops would be open late.
“It’s a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and support local businesses in between enjoying the acts, getting something to eat and drink, and catching up with friends.
“We expect it to be a fantastic way to enjoy a summer evening and launch into the festive season and holiday period.”
