A fun new festival will turn the spotlight on Camperdown on Friday night.
The Light Up Camperdown – Light and Lantern Festival will feature street performers, buskers, markets, late night Christmas shopping and more.
From 4-9 pm it, will culminate with the illumination of the clocktower and Courthouse Camperdown.
Corangamite Shire Mayor Kate Makin invited everyone along to the inaugural event which will include lighting, projections, a parade and markets.
“Students at St Patrick’s Primary School and Camperdown College have made lanterns, under the guidance of WildHoney Performing Arts, to be used in a parade down the Avenue,” Cr Makin said.
“The parade will leave the Theatre Royal at 8.30 and make its way to the clocktower which will be lit up.
“There will be lantern-making workshops for people of all ages from 4.30 on Friday so they can add their own contribution to the spectacle.
“Roving artist group, Illuminates will perform at 5 pm, 7 pm and 8.30 pm with their dream-like costumes, stilts and choreography.
“Rich Royale will also add to the theme of the night with his LED art.”
Cr Makin said young local artists would be busking at three separate locations around the town centre.
The Camperdown Rotary Twilight Market would add colour and variety to the festival atmosphere and many of the local shops would be open late.
“It’s a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and support local businesses in between enjoying the acts, getting something to eat and drink, and catching up with friends.
“We expect it to be a fantastic way to enjoy a summer evening and launch into the festive season and holiday period.”
