Rediscover friendships with mobile cinema
Published on 10 November 2021
Pandemic restrictions are lifting and it’s time to rediscover friendships and enjoy the company of our community and club members.
Corangamite Shire Council’s mobile cinema is a great way to host a fun event and rebuild community connections after months of COVID lockdowns, Cr Laurie Hickey said.
“Showing movies in our community halls and open spaces is a good excuse for everyone in our farming communities to get together and socialise.
“After months of limitations on gatherings, it’s important for everyone to remember they’re part of a wider community.
“What better way to keep our communities strong and resilient than getting together for a movie and a catch-up with people we might not have seen for a while.
“It’s a great opportunity to run a fundraiser to help your sporting club or social group get back into action now that members can gather together again.
Economic Development and Events Officer Tammy Young said the mobile cinema was available from Friday 26 November until March 28, 2022.
“Community groups are welcome to apply. There are limited screenings available and community groups will need to purchase the DVD they are showing.
“Council can arrange the booking of the film on behalf of your community group.
“There is a small non-Council fee for the screening rights, which ranges between $150 and $350, depending on the movie,” she said.
In collaboration with the Corangamite Film Society, Council can arrange volunteers to take the mobile cinema equipment to your venue and show the movie of your choice.
Ms Young said screenings were subject to the availability of volunteers.
Screenings will need to be COVIDSafe events with further advice on the registering of events to be provided once announced by the State Government.
If you would like to screen a movie, fill in an expression of interest form here or call us on 5593 7100 for a hard copy.
Expressions of interest will be accepted until Monday 22 November.
