Budget

Residents are invited to have their say on the development of our 2022-2023 Budget and long term financial plan.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein encouraged residents to have their say as Council set priorities for the coming financial year.

“What is important to you?” Cr Gstrein asked. “What Council services make a difference in your life and how could they be improved or prioritised?”

Cr Gstrein said Council was just starting the planning process for its 2022-2023 Budget and wanted residents to have their say on how ratepayers’ dollars are spent.

“We would love to hear from residents about what their priorities are,” Cr Gstrein said.

“With 16,000 residents, more than 20 service areas and $528 million of roads, bridges, buildings, footpaths and equipment to maintain, finding the right balance is a massive task.

“We need to make sure resources are shared fairly and equitably while still delivering the high level of services or community deserves.

“This is particularly important since the State Government introduced rate capping in 2016-2017. We need to find innovative and economical ways to meet the community’s needs.”

Cr Gstrein said Council was also seeking input for its Long Term Financial Plan.

“The financial plan is constantly being reviewed to make sure it is in line with long term goals set out in the Community Vision,” Cr Gstrein said.

“It helps guide Council’s long term approach to allocating resources and managing budgets in a financially sustainable manner.

“Continually reviewing the plans and listening to input from our residents keeps us in tune with changing expectations and holds us accountable.”

Residents are invited to respond via an online form here by 5 pm Friday 21 January or to their local ward Councillor.
