Have your say on Terang, Derri toilet upgrades

They're not glamorous, but when you need them public toilets are one of the most vital services Council provides.

Corangamite Shire Council is proposing to replace the ageing conveniences on Estcourt Street, Terang and Main Street, Derrinallum.

Residents are invited to share their opinion and ideas at on-site sessions this month.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mason said the upgrades were long-held community priorities.

“That is particularly the case for Derrinallum which has replacement of the toilet block as top priority in its 10-year town plan,” Mr Mason said.

“Our engineers have come up with a number of alternative designs and we want to hear from each community about which best suits their needs.

“The designs incorporate features aimed at minimising operation and maintenance costs over the lifespan of the new blocks.

“Modern technology will allow us to build more efficient and environmentally smart facilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste.

“Hygiene, accessibility, safety and appearance are all really important and we want the people who will be using the facilities to have a part in getting it right.”

The new facilities propose modular unisex, ambulant and accessible toilets with stainless steel fittings and fixtures and baby changeroom facilities. Consultation is sought on multiple potential layouts which can be seen on Council’s website.

Environmentally sustainable possibilities include:

• Natural light
• Low energy fixtures
• Use of natural ventilation
• Light coloured and reflective internal surfaces
• Dual flush systems
• Time controlled taps
• Flow regulators on taps
• Water efficient fixtures.
