Raising children and teenagers can be tricky.
Corangamite families are warmly welcome to come along to an evening with Dr Brenda Heyworth who together, will help us navigate and respond to behaviours at home as well as a framework to help our children and teenagers develop better emotional regulation and self-control.
Dr Brenda Heyworth is a child, adolescent and family psychiatrist, and educator and author of the parenting book, ‘It’s a Jungle – A Parent’s Guide to Emotions and Behaviour’. With warmth and humour, she translates the messiness of emotions into a parenting approach that makes sense.
It’s free to come along and is best suited to families with children aged between 3 to 18 years. Light refreshments will be provided.
Dr Heyworth has decades of experience and has delivered more than 100 workshops, tutorials and keynote presentations relating to mental health, wellbeing, emotions and behaviour.
“When children and teenagers don’t know how to handle big emotions, their instincts take over,” Dr Heyworth said.
“The evening will give participants a framework to help children and teenagers develop better emotional regulation and self-control.”
The event will be hosted by Corangamite Shire Council’s Family and Children's Services Team.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Rae invited parents and carers to come to the Killara Centre for an evening of fun and learning.
“It’s an opportunity to connect with other families as you navigate your way through raising children,” Mr Rae said.
“They can expect Dr Heyworth to translate the messiness of emotions into a parenting approach that makes sense.”
The event is at the Killara Centre in Camperdown on Wednesday 30 October, from 6:30-8:30 pm. Book here.
