SYNC Youth Strategy
Corangamite’s Council vision is for a connected and thriving community.
Our young people aged 12-25 years make up 17.2% of our population and view ‘connectivity’ as essential to ‘their community’.
Corangamite Shire Council recognises the important role young people play in our community and as our future.
The aim of Corangamite’s Youth Services is to ensure that every young person in Corangamite feels connected, is heard and valued, is supported to overcome challenges and has opportunities to reach their full potential.
Sync provides the strategic framework, the plan, on how we will achieve this.
Sync was created in the first half of 2020, amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown following Australia’s bushfire crisis and the recovery of our own area from the 2018 St Patrick’s Day fires. Young people were adapting to a life of physical isolation where social interaction, education and employment moved online, and life changed in new and uncertain ways.
WHY SYNC?
It’s all about community, connection and inclusion. Over time, the work of Corangamite Shire Youth Services and its Youth Crew have been recognised for their inclusivity and creativity in embracing diversity. This theme continues throughout Sync and we are proud to embrace this philosophy in all that we do.
It is this identity of inclusive connection and synchronisation, moving together as one, that the name Sync was born.
