Chance to win $1K for your club or group

Corangamite Shire residents have the chance to win $1000 for the club or community group of their choice by registering for the Trek for Teams challenge.
The 28 day challenge starts Saturday 21 November and involves teams of up to five people running / walking and tracking the kilometres covered with the Strava app or other GPS device.
The team with the most kilometres tallied by Friday 18 December wins $1000 for their nominated club.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said that teams must represent a Corangamite Shire-based club or community group that has been impacted by COVID.
“Most groups have been impacted by COVID in some way, from sports clubs who have had to cancel entire seasons, to theatre groups and book clubs who have been unable to rehearse or meet.
“Participants don’t have to be members of the club they nominate,” Cr Gstrein said.
She said the challenge was a fun way to support the shire’s clubs and community groups, while encouraging residents to get active in the lead-up to summer.
“It’s been a difficult winter for a lot of clubs and groups and we think this challenge is a positive way to kick start 2021.
“Now that people can meet up and exercise in small groups, clubs can use it as a way to engage their members or as a team-building exercise with an incentive,” Cr Gstrein said.
Teams need to register by Friday 20 November to start the challenge from 6 am, Saturday 21 November. Entry is free and there are no late entries.
