Mockridge Park proposal hits hurdle

A grant application to the State Government to upgrade Mockridge Park in Camperdown has been unsuccessful.

Council applied for $3.51 million from Round 2 of the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program in March, as well as allocating $390,000 to the project.

The $4 million proposal to upgrade Mockridge Park includes plans for a new synthetic pitch for hockey and soccer, upgrades to the velodrome, a new function centre, female friendly changerooms, and new lighting.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said that while it was disappointing the project missed out this time, feedback from Sport and Recreation Victoria had been positive.

“There were a large number of applications for this particular funding program.

“We’ve been told the project has merit and is well supported,” Cr Gstrein said.

“It is one of those scenarios where all the hard work has been done, the plans are there, and there is wide community support with the cycling, soccer and hockey clubs all involved.

“It is a project that, once realised, will see a range of benefits for Camperdown and the wider region,” she said.
