Works on track at Cobden Kindergarten

Works to expand Cobden and District Kindergarten are on track to be completed by May, as
scheduled.

The four-month project is well underway with demolition and earthworks complete, and the
slab due to be poured this week.

Councillor Jo Beard said the project was going to be worth the wait.

“This is not just a renovation, it is almost a whole new facility that includes outdoor works,”
Cr Beard said.

“It is a significant project that has involved the kindergarten staff and parent group,
contractors and local tradespeople.”

Corangamite Shire received $689,000 back in September 2020 from the State Government’s
Building Blocks program to build a second playroom at the kindergarten.

The extra space will cater for the introduction of the subsidised three-year-old kindergarten
program.

Cr Beard said three-year-old kindergarten was set to become an important part of families’
lives.

“We are looking at a new era in kindergarten education.

“Certainly, the new space is going to be a huge benefit to both the educators and children
who are now able to access two years of kindergarten for fifteen hours a week,” Cr Beard
said.

She thanked Cobden families for their patience while the project continued.

“The kindergarten kids have settled well into the RSL Hall and we are grateful to Cobden
Primary School for the use of that facility.

“Being so close to the primary school it is a natural fit for kindergarten to school transition, so
we are lucky to have that space while the works are underway,” Cr Beard said.
