Mount Elephant

A steep sided, large and well-preserved scoria cone with a deep crater, Mount Elephant is listed on the Register of the National Estate and considered of national scientific importance.  A regional landmark of geological, historical, cultural and landscape value, Mount Elephant was purchased by the Lismore and Derrinallum communities in partnership with the Trust for Nature in December 2000.

Recognising the loss of indigenous species of both flora and fauna since European settlement, the Mount Elephant Community Management Committee has developed a Management Plan that envisages a future for Mount Elephant as a centre for community use, enjoyment, recreation and education.

Corangamite Shire works with the Management Committee, assisting with tourism/marketing, land management/revegetation, infrastructure development and events/activities.
