We recognise that animals can bring much joy to family life. For the benefit of both pet and owner, Corangamite Shire endorses Responsible Pet Ownership. This includes registering your pet and abiding by Council laws regarding walking your dog and disposing of their waste appropriately.
Council has a better chance of finding your lost cats and dogs if they are registered and microchipped. All cats and dogs must be microchipped before they can be registered. Registered pets are also less likely to be impounded, saving you impound fees. Fines may also apply.
There are now two ways to register your pets, online or in person:

A maximum of 2 cats and 2 dogs can be registered at a time using this form.
You may require the following information to complete your application:

Fill out an Animal Registration Form(PDF, 109KB) to register your dog(s) and/or cat(s), and lodge your form when you pay your fees at the Shire Offices. The Council must see proof your animal is microchipped to accept registration. You will receive a lifetime tag for your pet which must go on its collar. Lost or damaged tags will be replaced at our office.
Council encourages responsible pet ownership by providing a discounted registration fee for desexed pets. Bring the appropriate desexing documentation from your pet’s vet, along with your registration form, to one of our offices to receive this discount.
Animal registrations must be renewed by 10 April each year. Council sends a letter to all registered pet owners in the Shire to remind them when they need to renew.

Recent changes mean that assistance dogs are now exempt from Council’s pet registration fees if all eligibility criteria have been met and Council has been provided evidence of this.

To be eligible for free registration, the owner of an assistance dog must demonstrate that:
- They have a disability, as defined under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), and require an assistance dog;
- The assistance dog has been trained top perform tasks or functions to alleviate the effects of the disability;
- The assistance dog has completed obedience training by a qualified dog trainer;
- The assistance dog is at least 12 months of age;
- The assistance dog is microchipped;
- The assistance dog is desexed;
The Application for Registration of Assistance Dog must be filled out, and supporting documentation as requested in the application must be attached.
