Pet registration

Overview

We recognise that animals can bring much joy to family life. For the benefit of both pet and owner, Corangamite Shire endorses Responsible Pet Ownership. This includes registering your pet and abiding by Council laws regarding walking your dog and disposing of their waste appropriately.

Microchipping your pets

Council has a better chance of finding your lost cats and dogs if they are registered and microchipped. All cats and dogs must be microchipped before they can be registered. Registered pets are also less likely to be impounded, saving you impound fees. Fines may also apply.

New registrations

There are now two ways to register your pets, online or in person:

Online

You can now easily register your pet and pay the registration fee via the online form below.
A maximum of 2 cats and 2 dogs can be registered at a time using this form.

You may require the following information to complete your application:
  • Microchip Number
  • Desexing Certificate - if applicable
  • Pension Card - if applicable
  • Declared a Dangerous Dog by another council - if applicable
  • Registration with appropriate breeding organisation - for animals kept for breeding purposes
  • Evidence of your dog's obedience training - if applicable
  • Credit Card details - for payment options
  • Valid Email Address and Phone Number
Should you have any issues completing this form, please contact Customer Service on 03 5593 7100.

In person

Fill out an Animal Registration Form(PDF, 109KB) to register your dog(s) and/or cat(s), and lodge your form when you pay your fees at the Shire Offices. The Council must see proof your animal is microchipped to accept registration. You will receive a lifetime tag for your pet which must go on its collar. Lost or damaged tags will be replaced at our office.

Desexing your pets

Council encourages responsible pet ownership by providing a discounted registration fee for desexed pets. Bring the appropriate desexing documentation from your pet’s vet, along with your registration form, to one of our offices to receive this discount.

Renewing your registration

Animal registrations must be renewed by 10 April each year. Council sends a letter to all registered pet owners in the Shire to remind them when they need to renew.

You can pay your registration in person at the Civic Centre, or via BPAY/Post BillPay using the details on your renewal notice or online below:
