All permit applications for B Double and Higher Mass Limit vehicle use on Council’s local roads are to be sent to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. More information on permit application requirements can be obtained from the Regulator’s website.
Do you need to close a road? If you are organising an event, moving cattle or doing works and need to temporarily close off a road you will need to get permission from Council. Complete a Temporary Road Closure Form three months prior to the event with the other information required. Council will contact you to let you know if the permit is approved. Costs apply.
Permission is required by individuals, contractors and companies wanting to dig up any section of Shire road or footpath. This enables the correct mechanisms to be put in place for public liability and ensures that the 'dug up' area is appropriately replaced.
Road Opening Permits for Main Roads are authorised by VicRoads. Visit the VicRoads website for more information. Application forms are available from any VicRoads Office or by calling 13 11 71.
Road Opening Permits for Local Roads are authorised by the Shire.

A vehicle crossing is the link between your drive and the road, within the road reserve and is the responsibility of the property owner. If you want to put in a new vehicle crossing or change the existing crossing, you need to apply for a permit from Council. Crossings need to be built to Council standards and require inspection once an application for a permit has been submitted. For urban crossings Council needs to inspect the crossing once it has been boxed, but before any concrete is poured.
